HSV will hope to go into the international break with a three-game unbeaten run. The hosts scrambled for a goalless draw at Union Berlin following their first win back in Bundesliga against Heidenheim.

Mainz’s coach Bo Henriksen is trying all his best to spread minutes as the depleted squad face another tricky test after they return from Cyprus with a win in their first league phase game of the Conference League.

Both teams finished their respective games with ten men last week. Robin Zentner’s absence mean Lasse Rieß gets only his third Bundesliga start. HSV’s Fabio Vieira would’ve missed the game with an injury even if his harsh challenge didn’t result in a sending off in the capital city.
