Como president reveals late Saudi bid for winger & gives update on Nico Paz Madrid rumours

Como president Mirwan Suwarso has confirmed that the club rejected a lucrative last-minute offer from a Saudi Arabian side for one of their wingers this summer – strongly hinting that the player in question was Assane Diao.

Speaking to Sky Sport Insider, via TuttoMercatoWeb, Suwarso revealed how close the deal came to happening:

“It was one of our wingers – yes, from a Saudi club. It was a very high offer. If it had arrived earlier, I probably would’ve accepted it. But I asked the player if he wanted to go to Saudi Arabia, and he said no. I thought: thank goodness, because I would have refused anyway.”

He added that another major offer had been accepted by Como during the same window, only for the player involved to turn it down himself, while a separate bid, arriving eight hours before the deadline, was rejected outright due to timing.

When asked if the player in question was Senegalese winger Diao, Suwarso said “I’ll let you figure that out for yourself.”

Suwarso also addressed speculation linking Nico Paz, with Real Madrid hovering over their buy-back clause.

“I don’t think a new agreement is necessary. Because of the buy-back clause, whatever we do, Madrid will always retain control. It’s like a kind of ideal co-ownership. We’re grateful to have him and to help him grow. If Madrid want him back, it’s their right – but we hope to keep him as long as possible.”

The Como chief underlined that developing young international talents like Paz remains central to the club’s Serie A project, while remaining open to player sales that can sustain their long-term growth model.

Quick take: Transfer watch: this move could reshape selection options and tactical balance in coming weeks. If incentives and add-ons are confirmed, expect follow-up negotiations or medicals to move quickly. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
