Chelsea are making waves in the Champions League this season, with Enzo Maresca’s side firmly on course to secure automatic qualification for the last 16.

Their recent 3-0 demolition of Barcelona at Stamford Bridge highlighted their European credentials, with Estevao producing a stunning solo goal, Liam Delap netting his first for the club, and Jules Kounde adding an own goal to seal what was a historic win.

Add the fact that Maresca’s side are also second in the Premier League, and it’s clear that the Blues are firing on all fronts and the future – both near and distant – looks bright in West London.

Even with such momentum, Maresca is already plotting January reinforcements, and one player has emerged as a clear target.

According to Fichajes, Atletico Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios is on Chelsea’s radar due to his versatility and ability to play multiple roles in midfield.

Described by Atletico coach Diego Simeone as “brilliant” and capable of operating in “several roles,” the 22-year-old can cover defensive, central, or attacking midfield positions.

Maresca reportedly sees the Spain international, who has earned four caps for La Roja, as a potential complement to Caicedo and Enzo Fernández in Chelsea’s midfield setup.

Liverpool are also reported to be monitoring Barrios, but Atletico’s likely €90m (£79.3m) asking price could deter them, leaving Chelsea as the club best placed to act in January.

Barrios’ arrival would provide Maresca with added tactical flexibility and depth in Europe, strengthening Chelsea’s squad as they aim to progress deep into the Champions League and continue to challenge at the top of the Premier League table.
