Chelsea are back in for FC Porto striker Samu Agehowa. The Blues nearly signed the player from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024, but lost out to Porto after the move collapsed.

Spanish publication Fichajes has reported that Chelsea are now planning a bid worth up to £87m for the player’s signature. Samu has impressed during his stint in Portugal, scoring 32 goals and adding three assists in 52 games during his debut campaign with Porto in 2024/25.

The 21-year-old Spain international has carried over that form this season, scoring eight goals goals in his first nine games. He is regarded as one the world’s brightest young strikers for his pace and power and has drawn many admirers with Tottenham and former club Atletico also monitoring his progress.

His current contract at the Estadio do Dragao expires in June 2029. Chelsea find themselves back on the market for attacking reinforcements despite splashing nearly £282 million this summer. Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Estevao, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jamie Gittens all joined a new look Chelsea attack but goals still seem to be an issue.

Injury to Delap has meant that Joao Pedro has had to deputize as the sole No.9 and despite scoring two goals and adding three assist in his first four Premier League matches, he has since gone cold in front of goal.

Chelsea are preparing to test Porto’s resolve next summer, but know any deal won’t come easily. Porto will reportedly not listen to offers under 100 million euros (£87m).

The Blues are understood to be willing to stump up that amount to get their man, having agreed a £34.5m deal for the player in 2024. The deal collapsed due to contract details, but Chelsea’s long term admiration has not faded.

Any deal for Samu would likely place him amongst Chelsea’s all time highest transfer records.
