Champions League: Union SG vs. Inter – Probable line-ups and where to watch

Cristian Chivu is expected to make several alterations to his starting line-up for Inter’s Champions League clash with Union Saint-Gilloise in Brussels on Tuesday night.

Inter will take on Union SG in the third round of Champions League fixtures, kicking off at 20.00 BST on Tuesday evening.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Monday evening, head coach Chivu revealed that Marcus Thuram is expected to miss Inter’s next two matches, including Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash with Napoli, as he continues his recovery from injury.

Lautaro Martinez is still expected to start, though, despite suggestions that Chivu is planning to rest several key first-team players ahead of the Napoli clash in Serie A this weekend.

Manuel Akanji, Nicolo Barella, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Federico Dimarco are among the players who could drop out of the starting line-up following the 1-0 win away against Roma over the weekend, which could bring opportunities for the likes of Yann Bisseck, Davide Frattesi, Petar Sucic and Carlos Augusto.

Pre-match reports suggest that Pio Esposito will start over Ange-Yoan Bonny alongside Lautaro at centre-forward.

Union SG (3-4-1-2): Scherpen; Mac Allister, Burgess, Leysen; Khalaily, Zorgane, Rasmussen, Niang; Ait El Hadj; Florucz, David

Inter (3-5-2): Sommer; Bisseck, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Frattesi, Calhanoglu, Sucic, C.Augusto; L.Martinez; Esposito.

Tonight’s game will be available to watch live in the UK on TNT Sports 8 and online through Discovery+. Supporters in the USA are able to tune in via Paramount+.

Quick take: Match context: momentum and small details could decide this one, especially set-pieces and transitions. Form and fitness will matter; expect managers to rotate carefully around the congested schedule. Continental stakes raise the intensity, where away goals no longer apply but margins still feel razor thin. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
