Castro is Bologna’s present and future, a contract extension is necessary

Santiago Castro is making a strong impression for Bologna in Serie A, and Football Italia expert Alfredo Pedullà explains why the Rossoblu are keen to lock the young Argentine down to a new deal.

Castro is Bologna’s present and future. The Rossoblu have never considered any offers for the Argentine, and were not interested in letting him leave over the summer.

There weren’t even any real offers for him: Inter had been following him, but decided to put their faith in Ange-Yoan Bonny and returning loanee Francesco Pio Esposito instead. There were not any particularly enticing offers from abroad, either. Castro is enjoying life under Vincenzo Italiano, and as things stand, wants to continue.

The injury to Ciro Immobile has meant more consistent playing time for Castro, and he has, in turn, scored several crucial goals and has shown that his talent is above average.

After his showings over the last few months, Bologna are increasingly keen to lock him down for another five seasons.

That doesn’t necessarily mean keeping him at Bologna for life, but there is a definite desire to invest in his present and future.

And for a player who has only recently turned 21, this is a big show of confidence from the Rossoblu.

Quick take: Transfer watch: this move could reshape selection options and tactical balance in coming weeks. If incentives and add-ons are confirmed, expect follow-up negotiations or medicals to move quickly. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
