Benfica interested in Napoli forward Lucca after disappointing start in Naples

Benfica are monitoring Lorenzo Lucca’s situation at Napoli as the striker’s future remains uncertain following a slow start under Antonio Conte.

Speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, via IlNapolista, both Romano and Matteo Moretto provided an update on Napoli’s attacking options, including Lucca and Noa Lang. While neither case is considered advanced, interest is beginning to take shape as clubs assess January opportunities.

Lucca’s situation is delicate. The striker has struggled to fully convince since arriving in Naples, and his relationship on the pitch with Conte has yet to take off. Napoli are open to evaluating options, but any potential move will depend on whether an interested club can meet the club’s demands in terms of both fee and formula.

According to Romano, Benfica have shown concrete interest as they look to add a new striker to their squad. The Portuguese giants are tracking Lucca closely, while Porto are not currently considered active in the race, largely due to their existing attacking hierarchy.

Moretto added an important contractual detail: Napoli are obliged to activate their option to buy Lucca from Udinese in early February. As a result, Napoli would first need to complete that purchase before selling or loaning the player elsewhere. The club believe this is a feasible operation should a suitable opportunity arise.

Lucca, for his part, is keen to play regularly. With the Italian striker market still quiet but expected to accelerate later in the window, Napoli are keeping their options open, and Benfica are watching closely as the situation develops.

Quick take: Touchline talk: leadership changes often bring short-term energy but require time for structure. Watch for shifts in pressing triggers, build-up patterns, and set-piece routines. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
