Balotelli glee as he gloats over Vieira’s Genoa failure: ‘Karma is a bitch’

Mario Balotelli has been gleefully gloating at Patrick Vieira’s Genoa exit, declaring ‘karma is a bitch’ and claiming the coach ‘egotistically piggy-backed’ on the hard work of others.

The relationship between the two has never been good, but hit rock bottom when Balotelli was effectively excluded from the Genoa squad during his ill-fated spell at Marassi last season.

The striker, who is currently without a club and seems to have no intention of retiring, did nothing to disguise his joy at news Vieira had left Genoa by mutual consent this morning.

He took to Instagram Stories to first post that ‘Karma is a bitch’ and ‘God sees all and gives.’

Then in a longer message which tagged Vieira’s official account in, Balotelli went on a telling rant.

“Wahey! Now Genoa can finally concentrate on people who really love the atmosphere, the fans and the club badge, who believe profoundly in the idea and the fact that Genoa deserve to be held up high!

“The hard work that I experienced first hand done by Gilardino and Zangrillo was not in vain: it was just egotistically piggy-backed badly by those who arrived later, making the most of what they had built with such effort, respect and passion.

“They used the immense work of Gilardino and Zangrillo, their love and dedication towards these colours, without truly understanding its value.

“Now our minds are on GENOA and the GENOESE! Forza Genoa! COME ON LADS! I believed in you, and I believe still!”

Alberto Gilardino was the coach who took Genoa from Serie B to promotion, then was sacked to make way for Vieira in November 2024.

That was just a few weeks after Balotelli had joined the club as a free agent, so he found himself suddenly having to deal with a different coach, one he had already clashed with at Manchester City.

Alberto Zangrillo was Genoa President from 2021 to January 2025, and then on the board of directors, until leaving by mutual consent last week.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
