Arsenal unlikely to activate Semenyo release clause as Spurs step up interest

Arsenal appear set to step aside in the race for Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo despite monitoring his progress, creating an opportunity for Premier League rivals to move ahead in January.

Reports suggest the Gunners, who have tracked the Ghana internationals development, currently believe Mikel Arteta has enough depth in the forward positions and are not expected to pursue a deal in the winter window. Semenyo, 25, signed a new contract earlier this season, which includes a release clause of 60m, plus a further 5m in bonuses.

That stance could open the door for Tottenham Hotspur, who are reportedly intensifying their interest ahead of the mid-season market. Liverpool and Manchester City are also understood to be keeping close tabs, though City have not yet made a final decision. Liverpool were not initially planning to be active in January, which potentially weakens their position.

Semenyo held discussions with both Spurs and Manchester United during the summer but opted to remain at Bournemouth at the time. A move to Arsenal has long been speculated among supporters due to his personal admiration for the club. The winger has previously spoken openly about being a lifelong fan, expressing ambitions to reach the highest level by proving his worth on the pitch.

He started the campaign strongly with six goals and three assists in his opening eight appearances across club and international matches. His form has, however, dipped in recent weeks, with no goal contributions in his last nine outings.
