Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners 'on alert' as £61m target is put up for sale

Arsenal have been placed on alert after an attacking target was transfer-listed by his club, according to a new report.

The Gunners have consolidated their status as title favourites over the new year period, with successive wins either side of Christmas handing Mikel Arteta’s team a six-point lead ahead of Liverpool’s midweek visit.

But there is no guarantee the Spaniard will rest on his laurels as he aims to deliver a first top-flight title in 22 years. Indeed, Arteta has already claimed that his club will be active in the transfer market amid another campaign beset by injuries.

The likes of Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres have been among those to spend time on the sidelines this term, with the German only recently returning to the matchday squad since getting crocked in August.

And it looks like Arsenal are after more attacking backup and firepower, as a player they have already enquired about could be made available.

Borussia Dortmund have put attacker Karim Adeyemi up for sale, alerting clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester United, with the German giants now open to the idea of cashing in.

According to CaughtOffside, a multitude of issues, from fitness to apparent behind-the-scenes ‘friction’, have led Dortmund to consider Adeyemi a sellable asset.

Most alarmingly, its report suggests that they would prefer to avoid dealing with Adeyemi’s future in the summer, paving the way for a mid-season move.

It is also claimed that Arsenal, as well as Man Utd, have made enquiries about the Germany star’s availability, while Dortmund are somewhat resigned to selling at below his true market value.

Adeyemi’s price tag was thought to be as high as €70m (£60.6m), but Dortmund appreciate that the forward’s so-so season may see them struggle to recoup such a fee.

The 23-year-old has scored just six times in all competitions during 2025/26, and is yet to have a truly prolific campaign since signing from Red Bull Salzburg – albeit with Adeyemi still at a relatively early stage of his career.

Whether Arsenal will be happy to break the bank for an underperforming player with fitness concerns of his own in order to remedy their own injury issues remains to be seen.

Therefore, despite Adeyemi’s apparent availability for a cut-price fee, the outstanding concerns make this by no means a risk-free purchase.

However, the report suggests the Gunners seem ‘best placed’ given the player’s representatives see Arsenal as an ‘attractive’ destination, so the ball may well be in the north Londoners’ court if they wish to pursue him.
