Lautaro Martinez and Zielinski impressed with Inter plan to beat Bologna curse

Lautaro Martinez and Piotr Zielinski noted the importance of Inter’s tactical plan to end their Bologna curse with a 3-1 victory. ‘My hand hurts, but I go home happy tonight.’

The Nerazzurri secured a fifth consecutive Serie A victory to keep hold of top spot, but were also eager to prove a point against Bologna.

They had lost a penalty shoot-out against these opponents just a couple of weeks ago in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final, which had ended 1-1 on the night.

Last season’s defeat at the Stadio Dall’Ara was also a decisive moment in the Scudetto race, but Piotr Zielinski, Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram secured the 3-1 win this evening, as Santiago Castro pulled one back late on.

“I said before the game that we had prepared a plan, and it worked so well, as we started with a strong press after losing the ball, and this caused real problems for Bologna. Our midfielders also helped on the second ball, which is how we created the chances for the goals,” Lautaro Martinez told DAZN Italia.

Lautaro Martinez has now scored six goals in his last five Serie A appearances, although the evening didn’t start well as his fingers were accidentally trodden on in the opening minutes.

“These are three very important points for the team. My hand hurts, but I push through it and give my all for the team, so I go home happy tonight.”

Lautaro Martinez also celebrated with Thuram after that bizarre goal, where the Frenchman scored with his chest, not perhaps entirely sure what was happening.

“We had our last sprint after that goal, I’m glad for him, he deserves it. Everyone works hard for the team and we all want to take Inter as far as possible.”

Zielinski scored his second goal of the Serie A season, the third in all competition, and is becoming a regular in the starting XI under Cristian Chivu.

“I’ve been in good condition for a while, I am glad that I can give my support to the team,” Zielinski told DAZN Italia.

“It all went well apart from the late goal, we had it largely under control, which was important because we’d had problems with Bologna recently.”
