Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva is on the radar of multiple clubs ahead of next month’s transfer window. Silva’s contract expires at the end of the season and the player has already announced he will leave the club at that point.
The reported arrival of Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo could see Silva depart sooner than that however, according to Italian publication Calciomercato. Serie A sides Juventus and AC Milan are both interested in the 31-year-old, alongside La Liga giants Barcelona and several clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
Silva has been a mainstay in Pep Guardiola’s side since joining the club from Monaco in 2017. He’s made 431 appearances in all competitions, scoring 73 goals and providing 75 assists.
He’s appeared in all 18 of City’s Premier League matches this season, and now skippers the side following the departure of Kevin De Bruyne. Silva said he intends to enjoy his last season with the club and then assess his future in the summer after the World Cup with Portugal, but may now be the subject of January bids.
While Silva has remained integral to the City side despite the summer additions of Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders, reports suggest that the potential arrival of Antoine Semenyo could impact his place in the side.
Semenyo could occupy either of the wings, pushing Cherki or Phil Foden to central midfield in place of Silva of Nico Gonzalez. Any tactical tweaks will be revealed at a later time, but given that Silva’s long term future is away from the Etihad in any case – he may be tempted by an earlier switch for the right project.
Salary is expected to play a factor in any move. Clubs in Saudi Arabia are believed to be the only interested suitors that are capable of paying Silva’s reported €8 million net per year salary.
Barcelona were unsuccessful in their attempts to sign Silva in 2022 due to financial constraints, and would likely struggle in the future as well. Juventus and AC Milan can offer interest sporting projects, but Silva would likely have to take a pay cut to move to to Italy.
