Manchester United central midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly desperate to get out of the club after a lack of playing time under Ruben Amorim.
The England international has barely featured for Man Utd this season, starting just one game in the Carabao Cup, and featuring nine times, all from the bench, in the Premier League.
We’ve previously reported on a long list of clubs chasing Mainoo, with Napoli showing the strongest interest, while Chelsea have also been linked by Simon Phillips.
It now seems Chelsea and others could face competition for Mainoo as a report from the Daily Mail claims as many as 12 clubs could be in for him this January.
The Mail add that Napoli remain keen on Mainoo for January after first looking into signing him during the summer.
They also mention unspecified clubs from England, Spain and Italy being keen to sign the 20-year-old on loan.
As well as Napoli and Chelsea, we’ve previously been informed about interest from Manchester City, Tottenham, Newcastle, Leeds, Everton, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid.
Still, it seems there may be even more clubs than that in the running for Mainoo, who will undoubtedly want to be playing more in a bid to win a place in England’s 2026 World Cup squad.
This latest update on Mainoo’s future comes as Amorim has spoken about his decision not to play Mainoo this season.
“Of course, I understand. My job is to answer, but I am trying to answer always the same thing – and you ask me always the same thing,” Amorim said in his press conference.
“I understand what you are saying. You love Kobbie. He starts for England, but that doesn’t mean I need to put (in) Kobbie when I feel I shouldn’t put (in) Kobbie.
“I don’t know what is going to happen. It depends. If I see in training it is the best thing, I will put it. That is the only way I know how to respond to that.”
Meanwhile, United legend Paul Scholes has slammed Amorim’s quotes about Mainoo, saying the MUFC manager is “ruining” the youngster.
What do you think about the whole Mainoo situation? Should Amorim give him more of a chance? Give us your views in the comments!
