What Juventus need to secure Champions League play-off spot after 3-2 Bodo/Glimt win

Juventus picked up their first Champions League victory of the season in a 3-2 comeback victory away against Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday night, but the Bianconeri still have a long way to go before their spot in the knock-out rounds is confirmed.

Here is what Luciano Spalletti and his team need to secure a spot in the top 24 by the end of the league phase.

The Bianconeri currently occupy 21st place in the Champions League table ahead of Wednesday’s round of fixtures. They have picked up six points from their first five matches in the competitions this season, with one win, three draws and one loss on their record.

Last season, 11 points and a goal difference of -4 was enough to secure a spot in the top 24 in the Champions League table.

It is likely to be a similar scenario this time around as well, which means that Juventus effectively require two wins from their next three matches in the Champions League to secure a spot in the play-off round. They will play at home against Pafos next, then at home against Benfica on January 21 and then away against Monaco on January 28.

If Juventus manage to win all three of their remaining Champions League league phase fixtures, they will end up on 15 points, which was not quite enough to secure a top eight finish last season. The tally required then was 16, and La Gazzetta dello Sport estimates that it will be the same in 2025-26.

Quick take: Match context: momentum and small details could decide this one, especially set-pieces and transitions. Form and fitness will matter; expect managers to rotate carefully around the congested schedule. Continental stakes raise the intensity, where away goals no longer apply but margins still feel razor thin. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
