After lifting the Premier League title in 2024/25, many expected Liverpool to pick up right where they left off. But so far, the 2025/26 campaign has been a mixed bag for Arne Slot’s side.
The Reds have looked unstoppable in flashes — particularly in wins over Arsenal and Newcastle — yet lapses in concentration and inconsistent finishing have cost them points in recent weeks, with Slot’s side suffering back-to-back Premier League defeats against Chelsea and Crystal Palace.
Record signings Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz appear to be struggling to settle, Virgil van Dijk looks unusually shaky at the back, and left-back Milos Kerkez seems out of his depth.
There’s little fear that Slot’s men won’t recover, but with them currently sitting third and in a noticeable slump, the Dutchman knows his team still needs greater depth if they’re to defend their crown.
Liverpool have been keeping tabs on Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo for some time, and fresh developments suggest they may have a clearer path to his signature.
The Ghana international has been in scintillating form this season, registering nine goal involvements (six goals and three assists) across all competitions for the Cherries. His pace, power, and relentless energy have made him one of the league’s standout performers — and a perfect fit for Slot’s high-intensity style.
Semenyo’s personal coach, Saul Isaksson-Hurst, believes a move to one of England’s biggest clubs is inevitable.
Speaking to talkSPORT, he described the 25-year-old as “electric” and suggested his breakout is only the beginning.
“He has all the qualities in terms of the technical attributes, the physical attributes, has the mentality, wants to be the best, wants to work hard,” Isaksson-Hurst said.
“I think he was unlucky not to get a move in the summer,” he added. “I think it’s come out of the press today, he’s got a release clause. I think it’s just a matter of time until he goes to one of the big clubs.”

Liverpool, who are looking to freshen up their forward line as Mohamed Salah enters the final years of his contract, could be a natural next step for Semenyo. With his pace and directness, the Ghana international – who has previously been praised by Slot himself – would add another dimension to the Reds’ already potent attack.
Over the years, he's had the pleasure of interviewing some of the biggest names in world sport, including Usain Bolt, Rafael Nadal, Christian Pulisic, and more.
