Fiorentina claimed an emotional 2-1 victory away to Bologna, dedicating the result to club president Rocco Commisso following his recent passing.
Speaking after the match at the Stadio Dall’Ara, head coach Paolo Vanoli admitted it had been a difficult few days for the squad, but praised his players for their response.
“These haven’t been easy days. We’ve lost a man and a president who gave so much,” Vanoli said.
“Even though I didn’t know him personally, whenever we spoke he always transmitted values about fighting together. This win is for him and his family.”
On the pitch, Fiorentina impressed in the first half, controlling the game and taking their chances, while Vanoli felt the second half required better management.
“We played a great first half, making very few mistakes. In the second half we suffered more and need to improve in how aggressively we win the ball back,” he explained.
Goalkeeper David De Gea also paid tribute on social media, writing: “We fought for the history of this club and for those who represented it with the utmost respect. For you, President.”
Roberto Piccoli echoed that sentiment on DAZN.
“We dedicate this win to our president. He was an exceptional person who gave us incredible human values,” he said, before praising the team’s overall performance despite late pressure from Bologna.
The victory marks another step forward for Fiorentina, who continue to build momentum while honouring the legacy of their late president.
