Zamorano: Arsenal ‘more Spanish than English’ but Inter not a step below

Former Inter striker Ivan Zamorano argues that Arsenal might be the ‘most eye-catching’ team in Europe, ‘but they’re certainly not invincible.’

Inter host Arsenal at San Siro tonight in the Champions League Round 7, and the Nerazzurri will be looking for a win after two consecutive defeats in the competition.

The Gunners, on the other hand, have won all six of their Champions League matches so far and are also the Premier League table leaders.

“They’re a bit more Spanish than English. They play very well, they keep the ball glued to their feet with technical, not just physical, players, and when they go looking for a goal, they do it at supersonic speed,” Zamorano, a former Inter and Chile national team striker, told Gazzetta.

“You could say they’re the most eye-catching team in Europe right now, but they’re certainly not invincible. They have weaknessess to, and in recent matches they’ve struggled a lot. Inter can hurt them, especially if San Siro lifts them.”

Cristian Chivu said Arsenal are among the two best teams in Europe currently, while Manuel Akanji has argued that the Gunners are “a top side” but “not the very best.” But where do Inter rank among the best teams in Europe? Are they on the same level as Arsenal or a step below?

“Why a step below? Because we keep talking about that 5-0 in Munich? Enough,” Zamorano replied.

“Chivu has wiped that from their minds. All great teams have bad moments; what matters much more is how you respond after a punch that hard. In fact, out of that difficulty, a better Inter was born, even in terms of the way they play, and that wasn’t easy. The group has moved towards Chivu without fear anymore.”

The Nerazzurri are the Serie A table leaders but have not won any of their last 14 encounters against Napoli, Milan or Juventus.

“Beating the teams you’re fighting the title with is important, but if you don’t manage to and you’re still top, that’s not so bad, right? What matters is not losing the gap they’ve built over the others,” Zamorano said.

“If you win the head-to-head games, but not the other matches, then it’s better to stay as you are.”
