Where Serie A teams place among Europe’s most valuable clubs

Inter and Juventus are the most valuable clubs in Italy, but are outside the European top ten, sitting 12th and 15th respectively.

Transfermarkt has listed the most valuable clubs in the world, and the first Italian team in the ranking is Inter in 12th position, with a squad worth €693.80m

The Nerazzurri reached the Champions League Final in 2023 and 2025 and are among the favourites to win the Serie A title this season.

In a recent interview, Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti said the Nerazzurri are the ‘most European’ club in Italy thanks to their results in the Champions League over the last few years.

“They’re doing great in the Champions League, winning all their matches, and they’re coming off two finals in three years,” Ancelotti told Gazzetta.

“They maintain their level with great consistency. Marotta is surely a capable executive. He’s done a great job.”

The second-most valuable Serie A club is Juventus, with the Old Lady’s team worth an estimated €602.70m. The Bianconeri sit 15th in the standings, while Napoli sit 18th. The defending Serie A champions’ team is worth €503.3m according to Transfermarkt.

Napoli have returned to the Champions League this season after missing out on European qualification in the 2023-24 campaign, in which they changed three coaches.

Milan and Atalanta complete the Serie A top five of most valuable teams, but both sides are even outside the European top 20. The Rossoneri rank 21st (€471.50m), and La Dea sit in the 22nd placement (€459.10m).

Inter and Juventus are also among the most valuable football brands, as reported by Brandirectory.

However, in this case, Juventus take the top spot among Serie A clubs in 13th position. Inter sit 14th, while Milan rank 15th ahead of Napoli (21st) and Roma (24th).

Unsurprisingly, clubs outside Serie A dominate the Brandirectory as Real Madrid top the listing of popular foreign brands in football.

There has been a huge debate about the level of Serie A football compared to other top divisions in Europe, especially as Italy continue to struggle to qualify for the World Cup.

The Azzurri coach Gennaro Gattuso, however, didn’t agree with those arguing that quality in Serie A is consistently dropping.

“It’s undeniable that in the Premier League, they play a different sport because of their financial strength, but our league is tough,” Gattuso said at a press conference in November.

“If you are good at preparing the game tactically…we have incredible coaches, very well prepared. If you don’t invent a move, it’s hard to win games.

“There’s another important thing. In every game, there are just a couple of players to watch. It means 60-65 players [can be called up], this is the most difficult thing, not the quality of the league.”
