Watch: Dominik Szoboszlai scores goal of the season contender with a rocket from outside the box

Dominik Szoboszlai has given Liverpool the lead against Barnsley and he has done so in style.

The Hungarian midfielder has been Liverpool’s best player this season, and he has carried that scintillating form directly into the FA Cup.

In the 9th minute, the atmosphere at Anfield shifted from expectant to electric. Collecting a pass nearly 30 yards out, Szoboszlai took a single, composed touch to set himself before unleashing a rocket of a strike.

The ball traveled with such velocity and precision that the Barnsley goalkeeper stood no chance, watching helplessly as it flew into the top left corner.

The strike was instantly worthy of comparisons with the club’s iconic former captain, Steven Gerrard, whose legendary number 8 shirt Szoboszlai now wears with immense pride.

For many Liverpool supporters, Szoboszlai is the closest thing to a true Steven Gerrard replacement the club has seen since 2015.

The similarities in their traits are striking: the relentless engine, the ability to transition defense into attack with a single diagonal ball, and, most notably, the penchant for scoring “worldies” when the team needs a breakthrough.

Even the man himself has taken notice. Steven Gerrard recently stated that the player who reminds him most of himself in the current Liverpool squad is Szoboszlai.

With 11 goals already across all competitions this season, Szoboszlai isn’t just wearing the shirt, he is defining a new era for it.
