Tottenham Transfer News: 20 y/o starlet from CL club emerges on Spurs radar

A Champions League attacker is now ‘firmly on the radar’ of Tottenham Hotspur, according to a new report.

Spurs have made some intriguing moves in the transfer window this month, with Conor Gallagher coming in and Brennan Johnson heading out, while they most recently signed defender Souza from Santos.

Their January business may well be finished, but that doesn’t mean they are standing still, with a lot of work to do to turn around their fortunes amid another disappointing domestic campaign.

And it appears a new target has emerged to aid the Lilywhites’ attack – and Spurs scouts could get a decent look at him when he faces off against them very soon.

According to Sportsboom, Spurs are among the admirers of Eintracht Frankfurt star Can Uzun, who is having a stellar season in the Bundesliga, despite being just 20 years of age.

The Turkey international scored in each of the first five league games of the season for Die Adler, while he has been one of the club’s few shining lights in the Champions League, scoring in their recent defeat to Qarabag ahead of their clash with Spurs.

Frankfurt are now out following defeat in Baku, and they could be set to lose out even more, with Uzun now being courted by several Premier League clubs.

Unfortunately for Spurs, not only are they not alone in pursuing Uzun, but others’ interest in the youngster appears stronger.

Aston Villa and Newcastle United are the other two Premier League clubs mentioned as being in the race alongside Spurs, although no bids have been made at this point.

Both of those clubs have made clear that they are huge fans of Uzun, with Villa sending scouts to every game and Newcastle viewing him as a future ‘global superstar’.

Spurs therefore seem a distant third in the race for Uzun’s signature, particularly if you add in Villa’s and Newcastle’s European prospects for next season looking considerably brighter, though there are sure to be plenty of twists and turns ahead.

What the report illustrates is the excitement surrounding the talent Uzun assesses, and if Spurs are to miss out due to their shortcomings this season, they may end up flagging that as another failure of this campaign, while their rivals only get stronger.
