Stubborn Liverpool star blamed for Florian Wirtz’s slow start at Anfield

Liverpool have endured a surprisingly poor start to the season despite their summer of spending on some big names and exciting talents.

Florian Wirtz has perhaps been the biggest disappointment since his big move from Bayer Leverkusen, as he’s yet to contribute a single goal or assist in the Premier League so far.

The Germany international’s struggles have now gone under the microscope in a report from Sport Bild, as cited and translated by Sport Witness.

The suggestion seems to be that Wirtz is struggling alongside Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, with stats showing that the Egypt international doesn’t pass to his new teammate often enough.

Salah’s own form this season has been a long way from what he’s capable of producing at his best, and the report from Sport Bild has suggested his attitude has also long been a topic of discussion inside the club’s dressing room.

This is certainly not the first time a story like this has come up, with the Daily Mirror previously reporting on suggestions that Salah and Sadio Mane once had a major bust-up when the former didn’t pass to the latter in a good position.

Salah has mostly been a world class former during his time at Anfield, so fans surely won’t be turning on him quickly.

But if the 33-year-old is making life difficult for Wirtz then that is surely something Arne Slot will need to work out how to fix as soon as possible.

Wirtz is not the only new Liverpool signing struggling to make an impact.

Alexander Isak has had fitness issues, meaning he’s only scored one goal so far, while he’s also missed a lot of games and not quite looked at his sharpest when he has played.

Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez have also been highly unconvincing, with Hugo Ekitike looking the only real positive so far.

But, as already mentioned, Salah has also gone backwards, and other important LFC players like Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo are also just not quite performing at their usual high standards.
