Spurs eye a move for “sensational” UCL winner

Indeed, there are some positives to take from the season so far, as the club comfortably qualified inside the top eight of the Champions League league phase this week, finishing fourth in the table following their victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

This means they will avoid the additional play-off fixtures in their schedule and can instead focus on preparing for the round of 16, while also prioritising an upturn in Premier League results.

There is clearly room for improvement within the current Spurs squad, and further investment over the remaining days of the transfer window should not be ruled out as they look to turn the season around.

The North London club are believed to be in the market for a winger ahead of the Monday deadline, with players such as Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry and Osasuna’s Victor Munoz being sounded out as potential targets.

However, a new report suggests Spurs may instead look much closer to home to bolster their attacking options ahead of the business end of the campaign.

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on a move for free agent Raheem Sterling.

The former Chelsea winger parted ways with the Blues by mutual agreement last week and is now seeking a new club where he can secure regular game time.

The publication claims Spurs are seriously considering a move for the Champions League winner, with Frank said to be open to the signing.

There is no doubt that Sterling brings a wealth of experience both domestically and on the European stage, but the question remains whether the deal makes sense for Spurs at this stage.

The 31-year-old winger – once described as “sensational” by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola – is one of the most decorated English players of the modern era, having played a key role in City’s dominance over the last decade.

However, his move to Chelsea proved far from ideal, and his lack of consistent game time in West London has reportedly driven his desire to find a new club.

The main concern would be Sterling’s salary expectations.

At Chelsea, he was earning around £325k-per-week, and even with a reduction, it would represent a significant financial risk for what would likely be a short-term solution.

That said, Spurs currently find themselves in a volatile position in the Premier League.

While relegation appears unlikely, they sit just eight points clear of West Ham United in 18th place with 15 games remaining.

Sterling would undoubtedly add experience and a winning mentality to the dressing room, but at the expected salary commitment, that influence would need to translate clearly onto the pitch.

As the window draws to a close, Spurs must decide whether short-term experience outweighs long-term planning.

A move for Sterling would signal urgency rather than strategy, but in a season teetering on stagnation, that gamble may be appealing for the club’s hierarchy.

Whether it proves a revival for the winger or an expensive stopgap will depend entirely on his ability to make an immediate impact.
