Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has hit back at what he describes as undue pressure from the media following his teams 1-0 win over Dreams FC in Sundays Matchday 14 clash at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Speaking after the victory, Zito questioned the double standards in how injury issues are reported, drawing comparisons with top European coaches.
Some journalists are unfairly putting pressure on me. When Pep Guardiola says Rodri is injured, nobody complains. But when I say we have 13 injured players, it suddenly becomes a problem, Zito stated.
Zito also defended his sides standing in the league, urging patience and perspective as the season unfolds.
The league is a marathon. If youre lambasting me because we were sitting fifth, then youre not being fair, especially when you know the problems Im facing, he added.
Kotoko had entered the game on a four-match winless streak, fueling frustration among supporters, with some openly calling for Zitos dismissal. The win over Dreams FC, however, appears to have eased tensions for the moment.
The coach insisted that he is not intimidated by the scrutiny surrounding his position.
If I leave Kotoko today, nothing will happen to me, he remarked, underscoring his belief that the criticism directed at him is unwarranted.”
The victory lifts Kotoko to third on the league table with 24 points. They will face Eleven Wonders in Matchday 15 this weekend.
