Senne Lammens’ family skeptical of Manchester United move after deadline day switch

Manchester United’s new signing Senne Lammens has faced some doubt from within his own family about his decision to move to Old Trafford, with his brother suggesting Galatasaray might have been the better option.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper completed a deadline-day switch to United for €21 million plus add-ons. But his older brother Tom Lammens – who plays for Belgian lower-league side Borsbeek – admitted he was not convinced by the transfer.

“There’s a lot of quality, you play for trophies there [at Galatasaray], and Senne could perhaps immediately make his mark in the Champions League,” Tom told Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad.

“I was initially sceptical about a move to United, because many players there had already succumbed to the pressure and couldn’t reach their full potential.”

United head coach Ruben Amorim left Lammens on the bench for last weekend’s Manchester derby, opting instead to start Altay Bayindir in the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Despite his reservations, Tom acknowledged that the final choice was his brother’s: “Ultimately, it was Senne who had to make the decision.
