Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah remains firmly on the radar of Saudi Pro League clubs despite his drop in form. Salah was dropped by Arne Slot’s for Liverpool’s 2-0 win over West Ham on Sunday, in what many believe calls into question the player’s long term future at the club.

TalkSport has reported that Saudi Pro League clubs remain keen to bring Salah to the Middle East, having failed with lucrative offers last summer. The Egypt international reportedly turned down a £500m offer from an unnamed Saudi Pro League club to sign a new two-year contract at Liverpool at the back end of last season.

Saudi deal makers are however not deterred, and still have Salah atop the list of star names to recruit. The 33-year-old has struggled to hit the lofty heights of last season’s Premier League title winning campaign, where he scored 29 goals and added 18 assists in 38 games.

He has scored just four in 12 Premier League appearances so far this year, and has looks to have lost a bit of elusiveness. A summer departure has now been mooted by sections of the Anfield faithful.

It is still believed Al Hilal are the leading Saudi Pro League contender for Salah, but Al-Qadsiah have also expressed interest.

The player’s form is expected to play very little part in Saudi Pro League clubs’ pursuit. Salah is recognized as one of the world’s greatest and most recognized Arab figures, and a move to Saudi Arabia would constitute a ‘homecoming’ of sorts according to BBC.

The financial lure for both Salah and the league on a whole is apparent, with the star’s name and likeness likely to increase earning power and broadcast potential for all parties. Salah reportedly rejected last summer’s offer to prioritize elite European competition and pursue his goal of winning the Ballon d’Or.

Next summer would be different as he will be 34 years of age will one year remaining on his deal.
