Sacchi believes Milan are still in the Scudetto race with advantage remaining: “Decisive in spring”

AC Milan are still well in the Scudetto race, and whilst there are certainly a few fears about others, they must continue on their own path. 

Winning the title was not a goal for this season, at least not publicly. Of course, internal wishes may be set, but it was not paraded as a possibility like it was last season. Given the result of those public wishes for a title, it is probably a good thing.

This year, the Rossoneri are going about their business quietly, and even after big results, Massimiliano Allegri has reinforced that the goal is Champions League qualification, instead of setting the bar too high.

On the outside, talk of how high the Rossoneri can go will continue until they drop a little, if they do at all. Arrigo Sacchi certainly knows what it takes to win a title, and he believes that his former club are still well in the race, as he told Gazzetta dello Sport via MilanPress this morning.

“Not participating in the cups is a great advantage for Milan. Having only one competition to think about is decisive, especially in spring when physical energies begin to drop.

“My Milan, when he had a great performance in the European Cup, could not repeat himself the following Sunday in the league. And do you know why?

“Human beings cannot think of more than one thing at a time, so it is logical that, if you have the Champions League in mind, the concentration on Serie A inevitably drops.

“Milan must be good at taking advantage of this advantage, also because having fewer commitments will also have less chance of injuries.

“In addition, Allegri will be able to coach the team for an entire week, trying to convey his principles of play and carefully evaluating the conditions, both athletic and psychological, of all his boys.

“Those who do the Champions League, in that week there, between trips, finishing touches and games, never train. And training, if you want to get far, is crucial, especially in a long and challenging run like the one for the Scudetto.”
