Join us for the pre-match build-up, in-game commentary and post-match reactions as Gian Piero Gasperini welcomes his former club Genoa and the returning Daniele De Rossi to the Stadio Olimpico on Monday night.
Roma are looking to get back to winning ways after a 2-1 defeat against Juventus last time out. A victory this evening will see them leapfrog the Bianconeri back into the top four.
Genoa have only won once in December, and are also in need of a win after back-to-back defeats against Inter and Atalanta in the run-up to Christmas. They will not drop into the relegation zone, even if they lose at the Olimpico on Monday night, though.
The hosts get us underway in the capital.
A nice hug between Dybala and De Rossi on the touchline ahead of kick-off.
The stadium announcer also urged the Roma supporters to welcome their former captain back to the Stadio Olimpico before the teams came out. A brief video compliation of his Giallorossi highlights were played on the big screens as well.
The teams are out, the anthem has been played, and kick-off is just a few moments away!
When asked for updates on the likes of Joshua Zirkzee and Giacomo Raspadori, Massara said: “The names you’ve mentioned keep cropping up, but they’re not the only ones.
“The January window is always difficult both in terms of finding opportunities and finding the right timing. Everything can change very quickly, not only here but in other leagues across the world.
“We will try to find solutions that can genuinely improve us. We will evaluate options with the coach and see what the best arrangements are and what to do with the current set-up.”
“It’s definitely a very strong offensive trident. In any case, Dybala, Soule and Ferguson are strong players who can do well together,” the Giallorossi director told DAZN.
“That’s how the coach has thought about this game. He’s thinking about the best way to unhinge Genoa’s defence, which will be very switched on.”
“We won’t talk about another team’s players, whether that’s Pisilli or Perin,” the Grifone sporting director told Sky ahead of kick-off.
“Our focus is to have a clear base, a team with a strong understanding of each other. If we find a player who can help us towards survival, we will be open to it, but today, our focus is on the game.”
When asked whether Genoa will be able to keep hold of the likes of Brooke Norton-Cuffy or Morten Frendrup, Lopez said: “They’re players who are growing, we’re building something day-by-day here.
“There have been requests for our players, and that’s a positive. Our goal is to maintain the level of the squad, if not improve it. Our priority is to not lose important players.”
“We’ve analysed what went wrong and where we can do better. That’s been our main focus,” the Giallorossi wing-back told DAZN ahead of kick-off.
“I hope that today we’re able to do everything we’ve done in training and come out with the victory.
“We’ve worked hard to try and correct the mistakes we made against Juventus. Obviously there was a bit of disappointment, but we’re focussed on doing what the coach asks for us and we’re prepared for this game.”
A victory on Monday evening will mean they have won 11 out of their first 17 matches of the Serie A season. This has happened seven times previously, and on all seven previous occasions, the Giallorossi have ended the campaign in the top three.
Roma (3-4-2-1): Svilar; Mancini, Ziolkowski, Hermoso; Celik, Koné, Cristante, Wesley; Soulé, Dybala; Ferguson.
Genoa (3-5-2): Sommariva; Østigård, Otoa, Vásquez; Norton-Cuffy, Malinovskyi, Frendrup, Ellertsson, Martín; Ekuban, Vitinha.
