Report: Arsenal chief Andrea Berta in active talks with wonderkid’s camp

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is reportedly in active talks with the camp of highly-rated German wonderkid Kennet Eichhorn.

The 16-year-old midfielder, who has played 14 games in all competitions for Hertha Berlin’s first-team, is one of the biggest prospects for his age group in Europe.

According to his Wikipedia page, Eichhorn is “considered a composed, intelligent defensive midfielder with strong tactical awareness, showing calmness under pressure, an excellent sense of the game, and an ability to organize play rather than rely on flashy dribbling.”

Unsurprisingly, it now seems Arsenal are alongside Bayern Munich in pursuing Eichhorn, according to a report from The Brief.

This is not the first time we’ve seen Arsenal linked with him, with the Gunners named alongside Manchester United as suitors in a recent TEAMtalk report.

One part of the latest report states: “Bayern are also aware that Arsenal have become actively involved, with sporting director Andrea Berta holding discussions with Eichhorn’s camp, and the Premier League club presenting a clear alternative route built around early responsibility, controlled development, and the platform of English football.

“Arsenal’s interest is regarded internally as serious rather than exploratory, even if no formal offer has yet been made.”

It seems like the Gunners really are serious about this deal, for what could end up being one of the biggest prospects in the world in his position.

Arsenal fans will hope this amounts to something, as they could do with winning the race for the next big thing, as they used to do more often during the golden years of the Arsene Wenger era.

Back then, the north London giants identified the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie before anyone else, signing them on the cheap and developing them into some of the very finest players in the world.

Eichhorn could have similar potential, though the report adds that he won’t come cheap as he has a €14.5m release clause – a huge amount to pay for someone so young and inexperienced.
