The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) have opened discussions with Chelsea regarding the treatment of Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi, who have both been frozen out of the first-team picture.
At present, the pair are training separately from the senior squad after head coach Enzo Maresca made it clear they are not part of his immediate plans.
The players’ union has stepped in to review the situation involving Sterling, 30, and France international Disasi, 27.
Sterling, whose deal runs for just under two more years and is worth around £325,000 per week, and Disasi, contracted until 2029, were both linked with departures over the summer following spells away from Stamford Bridge last season. Despite that expectation, neither move materialised.
With the transfer window now closed, the likelihood of either featuring for Chelsea before January is slim.
The PFA is understood to be pushing for assurances that both players can continue to train at a high standard despite being excluded from first-team involvement.
