Zion Suzuki, who is expected to be sidelined for three to four months, is a serious loss for Parma.
The goalkeeper is one of Parma’s biggest strengths, and now, following his injury, they have been left with the promising Edoardo Corvi and youngster Filippo Rinaldi to replace him.
That cover might not be enough to keep Parma happy, or comfortable, over the next few months, though. And for that reason, they are beginning to explore potential opportunities both in Italy and abroad, potentially on a free transfer to avoid having to wait for the January window to open.
Among the currently available Italian goalkeepers are Luigi Sepe, who has already made over 100 league appearances for Parma. Former PSG and Torino goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu has been without a club since leaving Palermo over the summer. 38-year-old veteran Andrea Consigli is also without a club.
Among the options abroad is Rui Patricio, who had been offered to Napoli last summer, which did not come off given the Partenopei’s signing of Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
Parma will investigate further before making any definitive conclusions, but they are aware that Suzuki will be a serious loss.
