Official: Sampdoria sack Donati, ex-Mourinho assistant ready to take over

Serie B side Sampdoria have officially sacked coach Massimo Donati following a poor start to the season, as Jose Mourinho’s assistant Salvatore Foti is ready to take over.

The decision had been in the air over the last few weeks, as the Blucerchiati have just one victory, two draws and five defeats in Serie B this season.

They were also immediately knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Spezia on penalties in the first round.

This weekend’s 3-1 loss to Virtus Entella proved to be the final straw, so Sampdoria announced Donati had been sacked.

His assistant managers Davide Mandelli and Andrea Faccioli have also been dismissed.

Sky Sport Italia are confident that Foti will be appointed as the new coach of Samp, although there is a problem because he still doesn’t have his full coaching badges.

This means he will need to work alongside another coach who can officially be in charge.

The 37-year-old had been an assistant manager at Samp, Milan, Torino, Roma and Fenerbahce, working with Jose Mourinho since 2022.
