Official: Lazio block Romagnoli’s move to Al-Sadd

Alessio Romagnoli appeared to say goodbye to Lazio fans on Saturday ahead of a permanent move to Al-Sadd, but the Biancocelesti have said in a statement that the defender won’t leave in January.

Lazio defender Romagnoli seemed on the verge of joining Roberto Mancini’s Al-Sadd, but the Biancocelesti have reiterated that the 31-year-old has never been on the market and won’t leave the capital this month.

Romagnoli started for Lazio against Lecce last night and appeared to wave goodbye to the Biancocelesti supporters after the match.

Lazio, however, have now clarified that Romagnoli will go nowhere in the January window.

“S.S. Lazio confirms that Alessio Romagnoli has never been placed on the market and announces that the player will remain with the Club,” Lazio said.

“Despite various enquiries received in recent weeks, the Club’s intention remains firm: to retain a player regarded as a central figure in the sporting project, both technically and personally, and for his leadership within the squad.”

Romagnoli joined Lazio on a free transfer from Milan in 2022 after winning the Serie A title with the Rossoneri.

Sky Sport reported earlier this week that the Italian was pushing to move to Al-Sadd, given that he’s nowhere near reaching an agreement to extend his contract with Lazio beyond 2027.

Romagnoli has been a regular Lazio starter this season, collecting 21 appearances across all competitions.

Quick take: Big picture: the update fits broader trends across the league with schedule pressure and tight tables. Supporters will watch for clarity from training ground reports and official briefings. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
