Bologna have confirmed the permanent signing of Norwegian centre-back Eivind Helland from SK Brann, adding another young defensive option to Vincenzo Italiano’s squad.
The 20-year-old becomes only the second Norwegian player in the club’s history and arrives with a growing reputation as one of the most promising defenders in his age group.
Physically imposing and comfortable on the ball, Helland fits Bologna’s preference for defenders who can build play from the back rather than simply defend deep.
Helland’s development has been rapid. After coming through youth football in Norway, he made his senior debut in 2021 before taking a major step forward following his move to Brann.
He debuted in the Eliteserien in 2023 and gained valuable European experience last year, while his progress was capped by a first senior call-up for Norway in October.
Bologna were already familiar with Helland, having watched him closely earlier this season during a European fixture at the Stadio Dall’Ara.
His arrival gained urgency following defensive injuries, with the club keen to reinforce the back line both immediately and for the future.

Versatile enough to operate across central defence, and even in wider or midfield roles if required, Helland is viewed as a long-term investment as Bologna continue to blend youth with competitiveness at Serie A level.
