Neymar was offered to both Inter and Napoli last summer, but the move never materialised after concerns over the Brazilian’s fitness. However, the story could yet be revived in January when the forward becomes a free agent.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport and journalist Fabrizio Romano, via CalcioMercato, the 33-year-old was proposed to both clubs at the start of the summer window by his representative Pini Zahavi, with discussions taking place as early as April and May.
At the time, Inter were focused on the dramatic conclusion to their season and had already begun considering tactical changes for the future. Neymar was seen as a potential opportunity, but recurring injury problems ruled him out of contention.
The same issue convinced Napoli to walk away from the idea, despite coach Antonio Conte being made aware of the player’s availability.
Just as the technical staff were evaluating his potential role, Neymar suffered another muscle injury that effectively ended any immediate chance of a deal.
Neymar will officially be out of contract on December 31, 2025, allowing him to join any club for free in January – including in Serie A, provided there is a non-EU slot available.
Romano reports that relations between Zahavi and both Italian clubs remain “excellent,” and the player is expected to be offered again to several teams across Europe in the winter window.
