La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that a word said by Antonio Conte irritated Massimiliano Allegri during Napoli-Milan yesterday, so the two coaches didn’t shake hands after a tense match.
Tension erupted in the final minutes of the Supercoppa Italiana semifinal between Milan and Napoli last night, leading coaches Conte and Allegri to ignore each other after the final whistle.
The Rossoneri boss was even caught insulting Conte’s assistant Gabriele Oriali during he match, prompting Napoli to release a firm statement on Friday morning.
According to Gazzetta, Conte was fed up with Milan’s protests from the bench in the final minutes, so he shouted “enough!” towards the Rossoneri on the sidelines, irritating Allegri.
The mood on both sides, however, was anything but calm from the start.
The incident that opened the dispute came at minute 29, when Adrien Rabiot kicked Matteo Politano while on the ground, leaving the Napoli winger in pain.
The Napoli players on the pitch and on the bench called for a red card for the Frenchman, but the referee didn’t even show a yellow card, contrary to what he had done previously, when he booked Rasmus Hojlund for a late challenge on Mike Maignan.
The clashes between players continued during the match, leading to Allegri’s outburst. Conte did shake hands with the Milan coach’s assistant Marco Landucci, but didn’t cross paths with Allegri after the final whistle.
