Napoli’s 1-0 win away to Roma left plenty of debris in its wake, and not only in the standings.
While Neres’ finish proved decisive in keeping Antonio Conte’s side clear at the top, DAZN’s Bordocam later revealed, via FanPage.it, an off-the-ball flashpoint between Bryan Cristante and Scott McTominay that went far beyond what viewers picked up live.
Cristante, wearing the armband before his substitution, confronted the Napoli midfielder in the first half after what he believed was exaggerated simulation.
“You weigh 100 kilos and you do these displays,” he complained, a rebuke not caught by broadcasters during the match.
McTominay reacted instantly, squaring up to the Roma man and firing back: “Shut the f* up, get out of my face.”
But the tension didn’t fade. Early in the second half, Cristante flew into a risky challenge, raising his boot too high and raking his studs down McTominay’s ankle. The referee booked the Roma midfielder as Napoli players rushed over to show the damage, with Giovanni Di Lorenzo pointing out the torn sock left by the impact.
McTominay stayed down for several moments before being treated by Napoli’s medical staff.
Once back on his feet, he went straight to Cristante, visibly furious and repeating: “It’s rubbish, it’s rubbish.” The Scot made it clear he felt the tackle crossed a line, limping heavily before eventually continuing.
The DAZN footage highlights an incident that was far more heated, and far more personal, than initially understood during the match.
