Napoli are in need of new midfield reinforcements amidst an injury crisis in the middle of the park, and have recently been in contact with Manchester United again to explore a potential deal for Kobbie Mainoo, Football Italia expert Alfredo Pedullà reports.
Napoli were looking at signing a new midfielder following the injury to star signing Kevin De Bruyne. That need has only increased following further blows to Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Billy Gilmour, who could have surgery at the beginning of next week.
The Partenopei midfield department is faltering, as Conte has already pointed out, and now it is becoming clear that the club need to intervene.
Several weeks ago, we reported Napoli’s strong interest in Manchester United’s Mainoo. There had been reports over the summer that Serie A sides were keen on a deal for the 20-year-old midfielder, but United insisted they wanted to keep hold of their academy graduate.
Things change, and the situation could now take a different path. Napoli enquired again a few days ago. There is competition, but Mainoo’s name is still at the very top of their wishlist for the January transfer window.
There is still a long way to go before any deals are signed off, and Manchester United still need to sanction the deal, so for now, everything remains open.
