Since taking the reins at Manchester United, Rúben Amorim has been methodically reshaping the squad.
His approach has combined the long-term vision of signing exciting young prospects — including Patrick Dorgu, Ayden Heaven, Senne Lammens, and Benjamin Šeško — with the immediate impact of experienced talents like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who bring Premier League know-how alongside their prime years.
Despite this youth injection, much of United’s backbone remains made up of veteran stars.
Amorim sees them as crucial in guiding the next generation, and one player in particular is a priority to retain — though there’s a catch.
Manchester United are reportedly keen to extend Casemiro’s stay beyond the expiry of his current contract in June 2026, according to senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano.
The Brazilian has become a cornerstone for Amorim this season, featuring in all but one Premier League match so far.
The challenge, however, is financial. United are looking to renegotiate Casemiro’s current terms, which place him among the club’s top earners.
Romano explained: “If you think about Casemiro one year ago or a bit more, there was a feeling like, okay, we have to find a solution. We have to part ways. The salary is too high. The player is not performing. He was not an important or crucial player for United.
“But Casemiro has always been a legend of the game. He is the man who made the history of Real Madrid, who made history with the Brazilian national team. So a fantastic midfielder.
“He’s been able to change the situation, to become a starter for Ruben Amorim, a crucial player on and off the pitch, an absolute leader, a wonderful version of Casemiro, this final one he is showing with Manchester United.”
Romano added: “So now the desire is from Man United, obviously, to continue with Casemiro, but in different conditions.
“So the salary he has right now is a salary that Manchester United don’t want to pay in the future, not because of Casemiro but because they want to change the salary structure.”
The takeaway is clear: Casemiro remains indispensable on the field, but if he is to continue at Old Trafford, he will need to accept new terms that align with United’s evolving wage structure.
Over the years, he's had the pleasure of interviewing some of the biggest names in world sport, including Usain Bolt, Rafael Nadal, Christian Pulisic, and more.
