Modric: ‘I joined Milan to win’ and reveals ‘Ancelotti told me I’d love it here’

Speaking live on TG1, with quotes via MilanNews, Modric explained why he chose Milan for the final great chapter of his career, insisting he still has the hunger to compete at the highest level.

“Playing for Milan is the best thing for me right now,” he said. “I’m at a great and historic club. The team has talent and the coach is a winner. It’s a long journey, but I have big expectations.”

The Croatian made it clear that he did not come to Serie A for a farewell tour, but with a winning mentality.

“I came here to win. Returning to the Champions League is the minimum objective, but I hope to achieve even more.”

Modric also reflected on his childhood, revealing that he was a Milan fan long before wearing the shirt.

“My idol was Boban, and I grew up with his myth. But also Maldini, Kaká, Pirlo, Seedorf…”

He praised the level of Italian football, calling Serie A one of the most competitive leagues in Europe.

“The level is very high. In other big leagues, you don’t find so many tough matches like here: Juve, Inter, Napoli, Lazio, Roma…”

Modric also spoke about the emotion of stepping onto another legendary stage.

“The Bernabéu is special for me, but San Siro is full of history. Ancelotti told me I would love it here – he is one of the greatest.”

Finally, he shared his ultimate ambition.

“I have already won everything, but my dream is to win with Milan. When you never give up, anything can happen. Forza Milan sempre.”
