“Medical to happen in June…”: “Incredible” Tottenham Hotspur forward agrees deal to leave club at end of season

Tottenham Hotspur have had a difficult season in the Premier League, currently sitting 14th as pressure mounts on Thomas Frank.

Relegation remains a real threat if results do not improve, making squad management a priority for the North London side.

The January transfer window saw Spurs bring in a couple of reinforcements, including Conor Gallagher from Atlético Madrid and left-back Souza from Santos, but departures were limited to Min-hyeok Yang’s loan move to QPR.

With the window now closed, Tottenham have confirmed another exit, this time involving one of their younger forwards who struggled to establish himself under the club’s recent managerial changes.

Brazilian club Bahia have agreed a permanent deal to sign Tottenham striker Alejo Véliz, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The move, reportedly worth €9 million (£7.8m) plus performance-related add-ons, will see the Argentine forward leave North London in the summer, with his medical scheduled for June.

Véliz, currently on loan at Rosario Central, expressed a desire to complete his spell in Argentina before moving to Brazil.

Romano confirmed the deal on X.

“Bahia agree deal to sign Alejo Véliz from Tottenham on permanent move, here we go!” he wrote. “€9m fee plus add-ons, Véliz wanted to stay in Rosario until the end of his loan and then join Bahia. Medical to happen in June, deal verbally agreed with director Cadu Santoro today.”

When Véliz joined Spurs in August 2023 for £13 million, he was heralded as one of South America’s most “incredible” young talents. However, opportunities in England were limited. He made just eight substitute appearances for the senior team, scoring once in a 4-2 defeat to Brighton, and never fully cemented a place in the first-team squad.

The move to Bahia gives Alejo Véliz a fresh start to rebuild his career, while Tottenham can free up squad space and recoup part of their investment. For the Argentine forward, it’s an opportunity to play regular first-team football and reignite the potential that earned him his reputation.

Quick take: Transfer watch: this move could reshape selection options and tactical balance in coming weeks. If incentives and add-ons are confirmed, expect follow-up negotiations or medicals to move quickly. We’ll keep an eye on confirmed details as the story develops from official sources.
