Manchester City have agreed a deal with Sheffield United to send midfielder Kalvin Phillips to the Championship side for the second half of the season. Sky Sports has reported that the deal It is a straight loan deal with no obligation to buy, meaning Phillips will return to the Etihad in the summer.
Phillips is under contract with City until 2028 but appears to not have a future at the club. The player has fallen out of favour with manager Pep Guardiola and has now been loaned three times by the club.
The England international had spells with West Ham and Ipswich previously. Phillips joined City in 2022 but has only made 16 Premier League appearances for the club.
Phillips will join a Sheffield United side that are currently 17th in the Championship table. The Blades are managed by the experience Chris Wilder and have former Premier League stars Patrick Bamford and Danny Ings in their ranks.
City signed Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders this summer, pushing Phillips even lower down the pecking order. The player will be hoping to play himself into contention for Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup.
