Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has lifted the lid on his future at the club. The Portugal international is out of contract in the summer and has hinted that this could be his final season at the club.
Silva is expected to be one the summer’s most high profile free agents, with Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus on high alert to his situation. Italian publication Calciomercato has reported that both Serie A clubs have contacted Silva in recent weeks.
Silva also has strong interested from Saudi Arabia, but has suggested that he wants to remain in Europe at the highest level. The 31-year-old has enjoyed a fruitful stint at City, winning six Premier League titles, one Champions League, two FA Cups, and four EFL cups.
He remains a key man for City, appearing in all 12 of the club’s Premier League games this season. Now in his 9th season at the club, Silva says he wants to finish strong and then consider his future after the summer’s World Cup.
“I’ve always dreamed of winning titles, but I never imagined I’d win six Premier League titles in eight years,” he told Calciomercato. “Football has given me more than I could have imagined, but it doesn’t end there: I have big ambitions and want to continue at the highest level.”
“We have a clear goal, and we’ll fight for it. Then we’ll see later, without making long-term plans. I’m focused on my final season at Manchester City: I want to finish on a high, try to win something more with the club that has given me so much, and then become a world champion with my national team, every Portuguese’s dream.”
Silva rejected advances from PSG and Barcelona in recent years, opting to stay on the blue side of Manchester. The situation is different heading into this summer, given his contract expiry.
Italy is reportedly his top destination although nothing has been decided as of now. Silva wouldn’t be the only free agent to join Serie A from City, as Kevin De Bruyne joined Napoli last summer after his deal expired.
