Manchester City are in pursuit of snatching back their Premier League crown after a disappointing campaign last season.
Pep Guardiola has faced little adversity during his long-standing tenure on the blue side of Manchester, but the last 12 months have been tricky to navigate on the pitch.
Nevertheless, the Catalan manager has persevered through the inconsistencies and worked on building the next chapter of Man City’s squad in their search for further success.
Over the summer, the treble winners welcomed Rayan Aït-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Tijjani Reijnders and James Trafford, many of whom have become regular starters in the side.
After a slow start, City have finally begun to put pressure on league leaders Arsenal in the Premier League and are now just two points behind the Gunners, setting the stage for a strong title challenge in the second half of the season.
Not only that, the Sky Blues have made progress in the Champions League after stealing all three points from Real Madrid at the Bernabéu earlier this week, which will be a huge confidence boost for the squad.
Despite earning a widespread reputation for spending heavily to aid their success, City have focused on nurturing younger talents during their squad rebuild over the last year.
Although they were successful in snapping up some impressive talent, they missed out on one of their biggest targets during the summer – Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento.
However, the Manchester giants are refusing to give up on their pursuit and have been strongly linked with another move for the Premier League star next summer.
A new report from Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope has given them a huge boost in their efforts to land Livramento, as it is claimed the Tyneside talent has stalled contract talks until the summer.
Hope revealed that while Newcastle are keen to extend Livramento’s stay in the North East, the England international is looking to keep his options open ahead of the summer and the World Cup.
There is no doubt that Livramento has become one of the most talked-about English talents in the Premier League, with his place in next year’s World Cup squad seemingly nailed on.
The 23-year-old full-back – once hailed as “outstanding” by former Newcastle assistant coach John Carver – has gone from strength to strength since arriving on Tyneside for an initial fee of £32m.
Despite his injury struggles, he has proven his potential, helping Newcastle secure their first major trophy in over half a century earlier this year and playing an important role in their Champions League qualification.
Livramento has two years left on his contract, so there is no immediate danger for Newcastle in their negotiations to convince their talented star to stay beyond 2028.
However, the summer could represent one of their last opportunities to cash in for a significant fee, and if Manchester City come to the table with a substantial offer, it may prove too hard to resist.
Following the £130m sale of Alexander Isak, Newcastle are no longer in the financial position they once were and hold the cards when it comes to Livramento’s immediate future.
With that being said, it will be interesting to see whether City test Newcastle’s resolve again next summer and if Livramento’s reluctance to sign an extension alters the club’s stance on a potential sale.
