Liam Rosenior’s early spell at Chelsea continues to generate optimism.
A narrow but gritty 1–0 Champions League win over Pafos FC in midweek kept the Blues firmly on track for a top-eight finish and automatic progression to the knockout rounds.
It marked three victories in his opening four matches, following wins over Charlton and Brentford, with only a tight EFL Cup semi-final first-leg defeat to Arsenal interrupting the momentum.
However, while results are improving, concerns remain about Chelsea’s longer-term direction — and that could yet place Rosenior in a difficult position when it comes to keeping one of his standout talents fully committed.
Cole Palmer has been tipped to consider asking for a move away from Chelsea if the club fail to convince him they can compete for major honours.
Since arriving from Manchester City in a £42.5m deal in 2023, Palmer has developed into one of the Premier League’s most influential attacking players. His debut season was spectacular, earning multiple individual awards after scoring 22 league goals in just 33 appearances.
The following campaign began in a similar vein before injuries disrupted his rhythm in 2025. Even so, Palmer collected his first team silverware with Chelsea, lifting both the Conference League and the Club World Cup.
Recent reports have suggested the Manchester-born forward — lauded as “magnificent” by Alan Shearer — is not fully settled in London, and Chelsea legend Marcel Desailly believes patience will only stretch so far if progress stalls on the pitch.
Palmer, a boyhood Manchester United supporter, has already been loosely linked with a future return north — particularly with uncertainty surrounding Bruno Fernandes’ long-term future at Old Trafford.
“If Cole Palmer decides to move away from Chelsea then that’s his business, but I just want him to respect the club, because they are the ones who have given him the tools to become the player he is now,” Desailly told Card Player.
He added: “The question is whether he feel like Chelsea are going to win the Premier League in the next two seasons. If he doesn’t, I’m sure he will ask for a transfer request to a club that will build a system around him.
“For now, however, he needs to hit his previous levels for Chelsea to help them and their new manager through this period.”
For Chelsea, the message is clear. Rosenior may be stabilising results, but convincing Palmer that Stamford Bridge is the place to fulfil his biggest ambitions could prove just as important as anything achieved on the pitch.
Over the years, he's had the pleasure of interviewing some of the biggest names in world sport, including Usain Bolt, Rafael Nadal, Christian Pulisic, and more.
