Alejandro Grimaldo has admitted on several occasions that he would like to return to his home country, Spain, at some point.
An exit in the summer of 2026, one year before his contract expires, has been suggested – but Bayer Leverkusen are hoping to keep him for longer.
According to Bild, Die Werkself are keen to extend the contract of the 30-year-old left-back, who is valued both for his performances on the pitch and his leadership qualities.
Grimaldo was already linked with a move away this past summer, but ultimately chose to stay.
“I did think about a transfer. But in the end, I told myself: I’m staying. And that’s the right decision,” he told Sky Germany recently.
“I thought to myself: at least one year here will do me good, so I’ll enjoy this season and give everything,” Grimaldo added.
