According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma’s next away game at Cagliari will be a ‘last call’ for Evan Ferguson as the Republic of Ireland international will have to ‘convince the coach and the club not to terminate his loan.’
Ferguson’s future at the Stadio Olimpico is uncertain as Roma could even decide to terminate his loan from Brighton in the January transfer window, according to Gazzetta.
The 21-year-old has only scored one goal in 13 appearances across all competitions and has lost his starting spot pretty quickly after a convincing pre-season.
It is no secret that Roma will be looking for a new centre-forward next month, and Football Italia understands that Corinthians’ Yuri Alberto is among the names on the Giallorossi’s agenda.
Roma will visit Cagliari in their next Serie A match on Sunday, and Ferguson will compete for a starting spot with Paulo Dybala and Tommaso Baldanzi, both of whom have had the flu in recent days.
‘A last call while waiting for January decisions,’ wrote the Gazzetta newspaper on Friday (page 19).
‘The Brighton-owned striker will have it all to play for at the Unipol Domus to convince the coach and the club not to terminate his loan.’
Ferguson joined Roma on loan from Brighton last summer and, technically, the Giallorossi have an option to make the striker move permanent in the summer for €35m.
