GFA President Kurt Okraku leads Thanksgiving Service at Maamobi Mosque to mark Black Stars’ World Cup qualification

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, on Friday, October 24, 2025, led the staff of the Association and several senior executives to a special thanksgiving service at the Imam Malik Hamburg Mosque in Maamobi to express gratitude to Allah for the Black Stars qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The event formed part of the GFAs interfaith thanksgiving celebration to mark Ghanas return to footballs biggest stage, following a successful qualification campaign that united the nation in hope and pride.

Speaking during the service, Mr. Simeon-Okraku expressed his deep appreciation to the Muslim community for their steadfast support and spiritual guidance throughout the qualifiers.

On Friday, October 24, 2025, I led the staff of the Football Association and several senior executives to a special thanksgiving service at the Imam Malik Hamburg Mosque in Maamobi to express our profound gratitude to Allah for the Black Stars qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he said.

He also commended the communitys unwavering faith and continuous prayers, which he described as instrumental to the teams success.

During the service, I extended my heartfelt appreciation to the Muslim community for their steadfast prayers, faith and unwavering support throughout the qualification campaign, he added.

The President further encouraged the Muslim faithful to keep the Black Stars in their prayers as the team prepares for another historic appearance on the global stage.

I also urged my brothers and sisters in faith to continue interceding for the Black Stars as Ghana prepares for yet another proud appearance on the world stage in 2026, he stated.

The GFA President emphasized that the thanksgiving initiative was designed to reflect Ghanas unity and diversity, bringing together people of all faiths in gratitude for a shared national achievement.

This thanksgiving service forms part of the Football Associations broader interfaith celebration of Ghanas World Cup qualification, which reflects our nations unity in diversity, he explained.

The interfaith celebration will continue on Sunday, October 26, 2025, with a Christian thanksgiving service scheduled to take place at the Christ the King Anglican Church in Sakumono, where the football fraternity will once again gather to give thanks to God for the nations collective success.
