Four teams are tied on seven points at the top of the Frauen-Bundesliga after three rounds. Bayern’s perfect record came to an end unexpectedly, while Köln are still waiting for their first point of the season.
Carl Zeiss Jena only had ten points last season, but they challenged the top teams at the start of this term. Following a narrow defeat to joint-record champions VfL Wolfsburg, Florian Kästner’s side took a point away from Bayern.
The 26-year-old coach masterminded a defensive display as the hosts rarely threatened Jena’s goal in comparison to their total dominance in the game. Pernille Harder’s effort that rattled the crossbar was the closest they came to breaking the deadlock.
The visitors got their first point of the season, while it’s the first time Bayern have failed to win a game this season. On Monday, Bayern’s duo Klara Bühl and Harder finished 19th and 20th in the Ballon d’Or voting.
Bayern’s next game will be against Freiburg tonight. The side coached by Edmond Kapllani recorded a massive win over newly-promoted Hamburger SV to claim top spot from the champions.
Including a brace from substitute Aurélie Csillag, Freiburg scored three goals in the last ten minutes to beat Hamburg 6-2. Hamburg will travel to Leipzig for their fixture on Thursday as they chase a first Bundesliga win.
There are two more teams currently on seven points. Wolfsburg labored to yet another scrappy win as Camilla Küver’s 97th-minute goal sealed a comeback win away in Köln. The late goal denied the hosts their first point of the season. On Wednesday, they’ll have another chance against fellow strugglers SGS Essen.
