As expected, former Fiorentina hero Vlahovic didn’t receive a friendly welcome, but some Viola fans surely crossed the line by making racist chants against the Serbia international.
As it sadly happened in the past, Vlahovic was called ‘gipsy’ by most Fiorentina ultras in the opening phases of the game, and chants intensified after VAR revoked a penalty for the Bianconeri.
Vlahovic had earned it for a foul from Pablo Marì, but referee Daniele Doveri was urged to the pitchside monitor, where he saw Vlahovic pull his opponent first.
Insults against Vlahovic got louder, as the striker also appeared to tell the referee. At that point, Doveri and his assistants gathered the players in central midfield and the match official asked Fiorentina captain Luca Ranieri to make sure the ultras stopped the racist chants.
Ranieri headed directly toward the Curva, signalling firmly that the racist chants needed to stop or there would be serious repercussions.
