England defender Millie Bright has announced her decision to retire from international football.
Bright helped England to win the European Championship in 2022, playing in all seven matches on their run to the title.
She also captained the Lionesses in Leah Williamson’s absence at the 2023 World Cup, leading the team to the final, in which they narrowly lost to Spain.
The 32-year-old made her international debut in September 2016 and went on to win 88 caps while scoring six goals – England never lost a game in which she scored.
She chose to miss the Euros this summer as England defended their title, ruling herself out of selection for Sarina Wiegman’s squad, saying she would be unable to “give 100% mentally or physically”.
